The Development Applications Board ruled that it wished to visit the site of the former NAS Annex on Georges Bay Road in Sandys Parish before it granted in principle planning approval to Morgan's Harbour Investment Limited.

MHIL have a $250-million project slated for the 250-acre property at Morgan's Point. British-based Renaissance Resorts International Ltd. -- a major shareholder in MHIL -- is the master developer of the site.

The plan includes a golf course in excess of 7,000 yards, a clubhouse, a 200-bed cottage colony with spa and conference centre, a village centre, a 400-berth marina, 318 homes and elderly housing.

In other planning news, further renovations to a Devonshire senior citizens' home are set to go ahead.

The Matilda Smith Williams Home, which belongs to the Bermuda Annual Conference of the AME Church, has been undergoing renovations since April, 1995.

The Board yesterday gave it planning permission to add nine bedrooms, a community room, a doctor's office and a new entrance to the Kent Avenue facility.

The home has been closed since 1994 for the $2.1 million programme of renovations which has so far included a new water tank, new kitchen, new dining room and a commercial-size laundry. By the time the next phase of expansion is concluded, the home will be able to accommodate 38-40 people.

Also yesterday, Bermuda Cablevision was granted planning permission to erect one 20-foot satellite dish and relocate a 27-foot dish at their Laffan Street offices.

And the board gave planning permission to Harnett & Richardson Limited. The Front Street insurance and shipping agency company plans to develop the 200-year-old building it occupies.

Proposed work includes additions and alterations such as a new porch, replacing balconies, a new ground floor shop front, an additional retail shortage area, additional office areas and new toilets.
