split up her family and send her son to live with his heroin-addict father after being told that Government has nothing for her.

The mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, says she cannot afford prices quoted by rental agencies and will have to opt for a studio and send her son off to the ex-convict father whom she divorced after an abusive marriage.

She has been given until the end of next month to move from her east end apartment because her landlady needs it to nurse a sick relative.

She said: "The Housing Corporation told me they don't have any apartments.

Family "And for my matter to become urgent my landlady would have to process an eviction notice through the courts which to date has not been done.'' Fer landlady wrote in October to the Government to explain the situation and to point out that the woman had been a good tenant during her stay and was highly recommended.

"The apartments the rental agencies have that are suitable for my children and me start at $2,000 per month. I don't even earn that every month. Housing Allowance doesn't subsidise rents over $1,500 per month.'' The mother is now hunting for a studio apartment but says this could mean she will have to part with her son but keep hold of her daughter.

"If forced to go our separate ways he will have to live at his grandparents' home and share a room with his father who is employed but is also a heroin addict.'' She said there was no room at her own parents' home because they were already looking after her third child who slept on a pull-out couch.
