New college chief named tomorrow
being chosen from a pool of 200 applicants.
And while retiring president Dr. Archie Hallett refused to reveal the name or nationality of his successor, he said he is "quite sure'' the person is qualified to head the internationally-accepted, growing institution.
After the advertisement of the $87,000-job early last year, a five-member committee of the college's board of governors was left with task of narrowing down those, including six Bermudians, eager to head the college.
It took the committee from October to about a month ago to make its final selection.
But Dr. Hallett, who has headed the college since June, 1977, said the number of applicants for his job is not unusual by North American standards.
Although, he officially retires at the end of the month, Dr. Hallett will stay on part time to see major construction at the college's Stonington campus completed.
The project is expected to be completed by 1994, when all students and college facilities will be brought together at the 23-acre Stonington campus.
