Police that many hands were on the gun at the time of the incident as people were trying to take it from him.

They were also trying to take his jewellery, he said.

Richardson, of Harrington Sound Road, Smith's Parish, denies attempted murder, wounding with intent, unlawful wounding, using a firearm and possession of a prohibited weapon, on October 29 last year.

Ian Jason Simmons, who is also known as DeSilva, was shot four times and was in intensive care in hospital for ten days. Another bullet hit Jermaine Lovell in the hand.

A Supreme Court jury heard yesterday that when questioned by Police, Richardson said he did not remember much about the incident but did remember that he was attacked in the Spinning Wheel nightclub and later walked away.

He added: "If someone got hurt it was an accident, and it was not suppose to happen. Someone was pulling my jewellery and at the gun which was tucked in my waistband.

"I was trying to pull it back and it went off. I was just trying to get away.'' Richardson also told Police: "I felt guys attack me and there were several sets of hands on the gun, someone choked me and I passed out.'' He also said he got the gun from a Jamaican man who came off a cruise ship.

"He asked me to hold the gun for him until he came back but he never came back for it.'' Richardson added that he did not know Simmons very well and he did not know why he attacked him. He also said while at the club he had consumed more than one double vodka and orange.

"I saw some of the crew in the corner and I was scared because I had heard that they wanted to take me out.'' On Wednesday the court heard from Simmons who said while at Spinning Wheel, at the top bar, he saw Richardson pointing a gun at him from across the bar.

"I was mad that he was pointing a gun at me so I threw an ashtray or something at him and it broke something. The bartender jumped over the bar and grabbed me and tried to rustle me to the ground but some guys pulled him off and I managed to get away from him,'' Simmons told Police.

Simmons added: "I walked towards Charles at the end of the bar and as I moved towards him he moved towards me. I wanted to confront him, I didn't know if the gun had real bullets or blanks but I wanted to hit him.'' The trial continues today before Puisne Judge the Hon. Justice Meerabux.
