No appeal in Horton acquittal

and US soccer star Randy Horton, Attorney General Elliott Motley yesterday told The Royal Gazette .

The 52-year-old former Assistant Director of Tourism was cleared of fraud charges earlier this month after Senior Magistrate Will Francis ruled he was not satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt Mr. Horton and taxi driver Weldon Dowling conspired together to defraud the Accountant General of over $3,000 in expenses claimed.

Mr. Horton had been suspended from his post at the Department of Tourism on June 26, 1995, but it is unclear if he will be reinstated now that legal action has been dropped.

When contacted yesterday Mr. Horton refused to comment on his next move, directing all enquiries to his lawyer, Mr. Julian Hall, who is off the Island.

Tourism Director Gary Phillips, meanwhile, has said he will need to meet the Cabinet Secretary to discuss Mr. Horton's case.
