from Magistrates' Court.

Sharon-Lyn Wilson pleaded guilty "with an explanation'' to a charge of playing ammplified music "to the annoyance of others'' at a party she threw on Mission Lane, Pembroke in August.

Sgt. Peter Giles, procecuting, said that Police received a complaint about loud music from area residents at 11.15 p.m. on August 10.

Investigating officers easily found the gathering by following the music, which could be heard from North Shore Road. The area was "full of youths and cycles'', and it was obvious a large party was in progress.

Wilson identified herself as "the person in charge'', and said the party would be over by midnight. The music was turned down before the officers left the scene.

At approximately 12.10 a.m., a second complaint was received, and officers returned to investigate. The party was "winding down'' at that point, said Sgt. Giles, but charges were nonetheless filed.

Wilson said that she thought it was all right to play music until midnight.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told Wilson that loud music at any time of the day is annoying to others, and that people cannot "blast music'' until midnight without any consequences.

Sgt. Giles said laws concerning music which is "annoying to others'' became stricter in 1989.

"We live on such a crowded Island,'' said Mr. Francis before imposing the fine, "We just can't stand for that.''
