$500,000 of cocaine appeared in Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Judy Louise Spence, Comal Shavon Spence and Jamal Reuben Pearman -- represented respectively by Kim Wilson, Richard Hector and Mark Pettingill -- were not required to enter a plea.

Crown Counsel Peter Eccles told Senior Magistrate Will Francis several Police officers were to journey overseas in the next fortnight to interview witnesses and gather evidence.

The three were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to import cocaine following a Police narcotics operation last month.

The $25,000 bail for each of the defendants -- Judy Spence, 44, of Boundary Terrace, Devonshire, Comal Spence, 23, of High Point Road, Devonshire and Pearman, 30, of Smiths -- was extended.

They are each charged with conspiring with the remaining two and other unknown people to import cocaine into Bermuda.

Both Spences face charges of handling and possession of cocaine intended for supply while Judy Spence is charged with possession of cannabis and crack cocaine.

Pearman -- The Royal Gazette's pressroom manager, also faces charges of the misuse of cocaine, possession of cannabis and possession of a cooking pot and ashtray intended for the misuse of a controlled drug.

HOTEL SUPER PLEADS GUILTY TO FRAUD CTS Hotel super pleads guilty to fraud A former Elbow Beach front desk supervisor pleaded guilty in Magistrates Court on Friday to ten fraud charges.

Carlene Donya Gilbert, 31, of Southampton, was charged with six counts of false pretences, two of forgery and two of uttering a false document. She is no longer working at Elbow Beach.

Four of the charges relate to November last year when Gilbert made fraudulent cash advances on the hotel account of Golf Digest Magazine.

She was also charged with forging three cheques belonging to her brother and cashing them at the hotel for $1,470 last October.

Mr. Francis fined her $2,000 with a portion of that money to go to Elbow Beach Hotel.

TWO APPEAR ON DRUGS CHARGES CTS Two appear on drugs charges A teenager appeared in court on Friday on charges relating to drug dealing.

Ze Kristos Lee, of Devonshire, pleaded not guilty to possessing and handling cannabis intended for supply and two counts of having equipment for drug use.

The charges relate to a razor blade and pay-type envelopes intended to be used in conjunction with controlled drugs. The charges date back to November last year when Lee was age 17 and Police allege the offences were committed in Pembroke.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis granted him bail of $1,000 with a like surety and adjourned the case for trial on June 3.

Also on Friday, a Hamilton parish man pleaded guilty to having a pipe which he had earlier used to smoke crack cocaine.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined James Alexander Lambert, 46, $200 for possessing the drug paraphernalia and $1,000 because Police found him with it less than 200 yards from Duck's Puddle Park -- an increased penalty zone.

Prosecutor Phil Taylor said Police on patrol just after 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 last year noticed a lone figure -- later discovered to be Lambert -- standing near Bailey's Bay Cricket club.

As they approached they saw golf caddy Lambert, of Bailey's Bay, drop an object on the ground.

When they got closer they discovered it was a clear-glass bottle pipe which Government analysts later found to contain traces of crack cocaine.
