The line will be for people with complaints or seeking general information on the Police.

It will operate out of Police headquarters in Prospect on Mondays and Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., during May and June.

Senior members of the civilian staff and Police officers will man it on a voluntary basis.

The numbers are: 299-4202 or 299-4203. Emergency calls will be rerouted to 911.

The line will not operate during public holidays or normal working hours.

Police spokeswoman Evelyn James Barnett said it was not intended to duplicate the role of the Police Code-a-Phone.

"Feedback from the general public is welcomed and can be made, once the Help Line is operational, to the Public/Media Relations Office.

"Depending on the success of the pilot scheme, a system will be implemented in the near future to secure a designated Police Help Line, and increase operational hours as necessary.'' She added the pilot scheme was part of a bid to boost community policing.
