properties in Pembroke yesterday afternoon in a crackdown on drugs.

Officers searched buildings in and around the Court Street, Union Street and North Street areas looking for illicit substances and stolen property.

It was the latest sweep of properties to be targeted in the random raids, which began last week and are expected to continue.

Arrests have been made and quantities of drugs seized throughout the campaign, which aims to help clean up Bermuda and take drugs off the streets.

It is a joint initiative between members of the central uniformed division, narcotics street team, the cycle crime unit, canine unit and the major incident room.

Police spokeswoman Evelyn James-Barnett would not reveal how many arrests had been made or what drugs had been confiscated.

She would only say: "What they are doing is conducting random targeting of areas that are known drug areas within Pembroke.

"It started last week and has since gone on to include a number of different units.

"There have been some arrests and some drug seizures.''
