Just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were called to East Shore Road, Sandys Parish, where they found two men had been fighting. As he was trying to arrest one, the officer was struck in the face.

A Police spokesman said the culprit ran off after the attack, which caused only slight injuries to the officer who was not taken off duty.

He said as a result of the fight between the two men a 27-year-old suffered cuts and abrasions to his face, arms and legs. The cause of the fight is not known and Police say inquiries into the incident are continuing.

TRAFFIC WARNING FOR FLATTS AREA TFC Traffic warning for Flatts area Traffic could be disrupted in the Flatts area late on Sunday as crews set up a large mobile crane outside the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.

The crane is to be used on Monday to lift large acrylic panels for the Aquarium's North Rock Exhibit.

In a news release, the museum said acrylic panels were being used for the exhibit because it was impossible to have glass panels of the size and strength required.

The acrylic also provides excellent clarity, does away with the need for pillars, and "can be curved to provide a unique visitor experience'', the news release said.

The North Rock Exhibit will be dedicated to the Bank of Bermuda, the Coral Tank to ACE Ltd., and the Ocean Tank to Heddington Insurance Ltd.

Girl hurt after falling from a tree A nine-year-old girl had to undergo surgery on her leg after falling from a tree.

Police were called to a house in Railway Trail, Sandys, on Tuesday evening following a report that the girl, who was just playing, had fallen.

It is not known how far she fell, but it is understood she was stuck in branches and had to be brought down by Police who took her to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

She underwent surgery on her leg and her condition is said to be comfortable.

YOUTHS ARRESTED FOR CYCLE THEFTS CRM Youths arrested for cycle thefts Police nabbed two suspected cycle thieves on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old youths were arrested on Frog Lane, where Police recovered two cycles which had been reported stolen earlier in the day.

One was a Yamaha V80 stolen from South Road in Smith's Parish. The other was a Honda City Express taken from Middle Road in Warwick, Police said.

The recovered cycles were intact, and the youths were released on Police bail while the investigation continues.

FINED $150 FOR POSSESSING CANNABIS CTS Fined $150 for possessing cannabis A 29-year-old man who pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court this week to possession of marijuana claimed the drug had been left there by someone else.

Delton Outerbridge of Sylvan Dell Road, Paget, a construction worker and father of two, told the court he did not smoke marijuana or cigarettes.

Narcotics officers executed a morning raid on Outerbridge's home on December 12, said Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne. During the search, a yellow envelope containing 1.28 grams of the drug was found in the kitchen.

Duty Counsel said Outerbridge, who has no convictions of a previous nature, was very sorry for the incident.

MAN ARRESTED FOR TWO BREAK-INS CTS Man arrested for two break-ins A 24-year-old Warwick man was arrested after two rooms at a Paget hotel were broken into, Police said this week.

The break-ins happened early on Wednesday morning while the guests were sleeping.

In the first case, cash was stolen. In the second break-in, a bag containing travel documents and other personal items disappeared.

The investigation is continuing.

In another break-in, a guest at a Sandys hotel reported that a wristwatch and a wallet containing cash were stolen when his cottage was entered.

Harry Marshall of Belvedere Road, Paget pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court this week to being drunk and incapable in a public place.

He claimed he had been to a party and had not managed to make it home. Police found him sitting motionless on a bench just after midnight on May 27 with his eyes closed and smelling strongly of alcohol, said Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne. The officers escorted him to the Police Station for his own safety.

Mr. Francis gave Marshall a six-month conditional discharged and warned him to stay out of trouble.

"Just leave the party early enough to get home,'' he said.

VISITOR ARRIVALS CONTINUE TO DROP TOU Visitor arrivals continue to drop The number of visitors arriving in Bermuda this year has steadily continued to decline from 1994.

Last year between January 1 and May 28, 144,057 people arrived on the Island by air compared to the 134,896 this year, a 6.4 percent difference. For the week ending May 28 air arrivals dropped 7.5 percent to 11,198 this year compared to 12,103 in the same week a year ago. However, cruise ship arrivals have continued to keep ahead of the figures from last year with 35,494 arriving so far this year compared to 33,495 arriving in 1994.

Last week, cruise ships brought 6,369 passengers to the Island, a 14 percent difference from last years 7,404.
