An anonymous source yesterday revealed that Safeguard Security Services was the victim of theft over the Cup Match weekend. Safeguard boss Paul Field was off the Island yesterday and could not be reached for comment. But it is understood that close to $300,000 was stolen from one of the security firm's offices and that approximately two-thirds of the sum was in cash.

The money is believed to be holiday takings from the MarketPlace chain of stores and MEF Enterprises which operates the Little Venice, La Trattoria, Harbourfront, La Coquille and Cafe Lido restaurants.
