The legal manoeuvre took place during the second day of the inquest into the death of Brian Sherlock.

Lawyers Elizabeth Christopher and Juan Wolffe -- both representing interested parties in the inquiry -- appealed to Senior Coroner Will Francis to keep the proceedings out of the Press.

"If this matter goes further a jury may be tainted or tarnished,'' Mr. Wolffe argued.

Ms Christopher argued that restricting the inquest coverage would ensure that her client's case would get a fair hearing.

Mr. Francis allowed the Press to continue to cover the proceedings.
