Public invited to inspect Shelly Bay Park
at 9.30 tomorrow morning to review the draft of proposed modifications to the area.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Parks is hoping for a large turn-out, to get feedback on their "management plans'' for the park.
The Shelly Bay Field area -- land north and east of Old Road -- is being considered for inclusion in the National Parks system. To incorporate this into the scheme, some modifications to existing traffic patterns will have to be considered.
One of the major changes being considered is the closing of Old Road to through traffic altogether.
An "overall redesign of the layout'' of the Shelly Bay Park -- renamed to include Shelly Bay Beach Park and the adjacent non-protected Government-owned lands -- will also be presented at the meeting.
Improvements such as the conversion of the changing rooms to toilet facilities, removal of most overhead utility lines, extensive shade tree planting and new park signs "would complete the overall modifications to the park''.
