Anglian Regiment on a training trip to Kenya in East Africa.

The group, all men, volunteered for the six-week mission and will get extensive training with the British unit which is all professional.

Sgt. Major of the Bermuda Regiment Sherwin Richardson is the most senior soldier to make the trip and will oversee the tour of the other Bermudians.

The other ranks -- including two officer candidates -- will be spread throughout the Royal Anglian battalion and will see extensive live firing and jungle training.

The Royal Anglians sends a training officer and two non-commissioned officers here to maintain readiness and had extended the offer of space for a detachment of Bermuda soldiers.

Capt. Edward Lamb described the tour as outside the realms of Regimental obligations and he said volunteers "certainly had to make their own arrangements with their employers''.

One man is a Bermuda College student and had to have permission from College administrators to rearrange his test taking schedule.

Based at Colchester in England, the 750 Royal Anglians will meet the Bermudians at Oakington RAF base and fly directly to Kenya.
