was robbed on the one day when she had withdrawn a large sum of money from her hotel safe.

But Madreen Bradshaw scotched reports that the robbery occurred because members of her family were "flashing their jewellery and money around''.

Mrs. Bradshaw was one of three Bermudian women held at gunpoint and robbed of more than $1,000.

She said her mother and daughter had decided to take out a larger sum from the hotel safe because they were going to Barbados and they needed to be at the airport prior to 7 a.m. the next day.

"It is ironic that the day that we took out the money we were robbed later that night,'' she said. "Every other day we left our money in the safe. But on that day we had more money than usual and we got robbed.

"The only people who knew about our withdrawal were the hotel people.'' Mrs. Bradshaw said that two men came into their room around midnight last Wednesday. One was armed with a knife the other with a gun.

While the gunman waited at the door the other one told the three women -- Mrs.

Bradshaw, her mother and daughter -- to remove their jewellery.

"They had been in the room before because they had removed our money bag from our hand luggage and placed them outside.'' After they made off with the cash and jewellery, the men, Mrs. Bradshaw said, threatened to injure the women if they called attention to themselves.

"Both of the men told us that they had just been released from prison and needed money and passports so that they could leave the island,'' she added.

Mrs. Bradshaw said that the experience had soured their trip and they had no intention of returning to the country anytime soon.
