Police said that he leapt from a balcony and ran away. A spokesman said: "It was later discovered that damage had been caused to the balcony roof.

Prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby said Yohannes knew the man he stole the chain from, being a frequent customer of his Devonshire jewellery store.

Sgt. Kirby said according to the man, Yohannes owed him money for several jewellery purchases.

However, Yohannes said the man had owed him money because he stole from him during a crown and anchor game.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined him $350 and ordered $290 of the money to go towards reimbursing the man for the gold chain.

Finance Minister The Hon. David Saul announced that wholesale gas prices of the two local oil companies are down by 0.8 cents per litre.

Last month gas rose by 1.1 cent per litre following falls in July and August.

The diesel price rose by 1.2 cents per litre and kerosene increased by one cent per litre. These rises followed a decrease of 0.3 cents in September.

THIEF STEALS SHORTS THROUGH WINDOW CRM Thief steals shorts through window A visitor could not believe his eyes yesterday when he saw a hand reach through his window and grab his shorts.

The visitor was woken up at 2 a.m. by noises outside his Pembroke guest house.

Going to investigate, he saw an arm reach through the window and grab his shorts, which were lying nearby.

The thief ran off with the shorts, which contained more than $300 in a wallet.

WARWICK BREAK-IN LEADS TO ARREST CRM Warwick break-in leads to arrest A 29-year-old Warwick man has been arrested in connection with a daylight break-in in the parish.

The break-in happened on Monday, when a woman left her Spicewood Drive home for a short while. She returned to find a cheque and cash totaling nearly $900 had been stolen.

A purse containing $200 was stolen from a home on Ocean Sands Drive in Warwick, also on Monday.

Kenneth Sinclair Raynor of Raynors Drive, was stopped by Police on June 9 as he walked along Camp Hill because he "appeared to be nervous''.

During their search, a homemade glass pipe was found in his right pocket.

The pipe was later analysed, and a cocaine residue was found.
