Sen. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) said Mr. MacDonald (Mackie) Douglas was "a pleasant gentleman'' from "one of the most respected families in our community.'' Mr. Douglas was also eulogised by the Hon. Maxwell Burgess (UBP) and Sen.

Wendell Hollis (UBP).

Mr. Douglas often put his life in danger by delivering yachts in bad weather, Sen. Hollis said.

"He loved the sea and he was prepared to take those risks,'' he said. "I don't think he ever thought he would pass in the way he did.

"He was a great Bermudian man,'' Sen. Hollis said.

Police are still investigating the death of Mr. Douglas, found shot to death in Harlem.

Sen. Woolridge also was supported by other Senators in sending condolences to the families of Mrs. Cora Whitter Castle, Mrs. Elsie Marsaline Louise Butterfield and Mr. Jerome Belboda, killed in the Island's second fatal road accident of the year.

Sen. Jerome Dill (UBP) sent condolences to the family of Mr. Leonard Chambers, "a dignified old Bermudian with a military and seafaring tradition.'' Sen. Ira Philip (PLP) sent condolences to the family of Mrs. Lucille Lapsley, an active member of the community who died suddenly on Tuesday. "Her chief interests were her family, church, and choir,'' Sen. Philip said.

Senate vice president Sen. Norma Astwood sent condolences to the family of Mr.

Chester Manders, who died recently at age 94. One of his daughters, Mrs. Edith Richardson, is married to the former Senate President the Hon. Hugh Richardson.

Government Senate Leader the Hon. Michael Winfield congratulated Mr. Garth Pedro, regional manager of the Bermuda Department of Tourism's Atlanta-based southeastern office.

At a recent convention in North Carolina, Mr. Pedro was named to the board of directors of the Travel Agents of the Carolinas, "a significant achievement for a Bermudian,'' Sen. Winfield said.
