guilty to stealing vitamins and supplements from the Phoenix Store on Reid Street.

Virginia Harvey of Dundonald Street in Hamilton told the court: "I had the money in my pocket, but I forgot about it. Sometimes I have lapses in memory.'' Sgt. Earl Kirby, prosecuting, said Harvey was observed removing items from shelves in the store and putting them in her handbag on November 27. She was stopped by a security guard after leaving the store.

When asked to return, Harvey became irate and had to be forcibly moved to an office to wait for Police.

"I didn't feel well and I needed the vitamins to stay strong,'' said Harvey, who told the court she was a nurse. "I offered to pay for them. I just forgot.'' According to the Police report, she did not have enough money to cover the items, which totalled over $20.

Harvey will appear for sentencing after Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis has examined the social inquiry report's findings.

TEEN COULDN'T SPELL NAME CTS Teens couldn't spell name A Pembroke teenager who had trouble spelling the false name she gave Police was yesterday handed $350 in fines and banned from driving for 18 months.

Laurell D. Steede of Angle Street admitted driving while disqualified because of age and issuing a false statement. She was stopped by Police as she rode a 80cc Yamaha motorcycle along Glebe Road on December 7.

The officers reported it was obvious the 17-year-old had given an alias because she had difficulty spelling the name -- Patrine Natlaney Lovell.

She was taken to the Hamilton Police station where her identity was ascertained.

CURRENCY CHARGES CTS Currency charges A 39-year-old man was charged in Magistrates' Court yesterday with 25 foreign currency exchange control violations. The Crown is alleging that Steven Wilfred Pitt obtained $33,000 from local banks last September by falsely stating on his Bermuda Monetary Authority form that the cash was for overseas trips and financial gifts. It was discovered Pitt never went abroad during the period he stated on the form.

Pitt, who was not required to enter pleas as the offences must be tried in Supreme Court, was bailed in the sum of $2,000 and ordered to reappear on January 7.

THIEF NABBED CRM Thief nabbed A shoplifter dropped his haul of liquor this week after being chased by fleet-footed staff.

Police say a man was later arrested over the theft from the MarketPlace store in Somerset.

In a similar incident, staff at Hamilton's MarketPlace chased a liquor thief.

No one has been arrested.

Also on Wednesday, a burglar stole a television, stereo equipment and a video recorder from a home in Piecrust Place, Southampton.

DRIVERS ARRESTED CRM Drivers arrested Police arrested two men for allegedly drink driving on Trimingham Hill in Paget at around 3 a.m. yesterday.

One was driving a car, the other a bike. Both will be appearing in court shortly.

YOUTH FOUND POL Youth found Fifteen-year-old Kenneth Boyles who went missing last Friday from the Youth Development Centre in Devonshire has been found. Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said the youngster has been returned to the centre.

BRUSH FIRES FIR Brush fires Firefighters put out two brush fires on Wednesday night.

The first, on Cedar Hill in Warwick, followed a controlled burn of lumber, trash, and horticultural waste.

Later in the evening a small hedge fire near the Paget Post Office was detected and quickly extinguished.
