Sandra Matthews, of Store Lane, Sandys Parish, was charged in Magistrates' Court with committing the offences on two separate occasions.

The first set of offences stemmed from July 1996. The second occurred in April last year.

However, she acknowledged she had been before the court on previous occasions for the same offences.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis told her: "This is serious. People don't realise innocent people get hurt and then can't get any money because they can't take their claims to an insurance company.

"It's a terrible risk to the public when people take the risk and drive unlicensed vehicles.

"There are too many of them out there.'' Mr. Francis also pointed out that the fines for such offences used to be much lower before the law was amended.

But he also told the woman her fines -- $600 for each of the driving an unlicensed car offences and $300 for twice not having it insured -- could have been higher and allowed an extended pay period.
