Mr. Judge was dealing with the case of Colin Wayne Simmons, 35, of Store Hill, Devonshire, who had admitted possessing equipment intended for use with a controlled drug.

Police found a glass bottle, a ball of steel wool, a pipe and three pieces of paper, believed to be used in taking cocaine.

A Police spokesman said that on his arrest Simmons had said: "Well I'm guilty, let's get on with it.'' Mr. Judge said: "I need a social inquiry report to see if Mr. Simmons is in need of any assistance to get away from the use of drugs.'' MAN DISQUALIFIED FROM DRIVING CTS Man disqualified from driving A Devonshire man maintained that he was not the driver of a car Police were looking for, but pleaded guilty yesterday to refusing to give a sample of his breath after officers came to his door.

Eric John Line, 50, of Dock Hill, was fined $400 in Magistrates' Court and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Prosecuting, Police Sgt. Earl Kirby said Line was driving a car in Devonshire at 7:45 p.m. on January 12 when he crossed the centre line and nearly collided with an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle reported the licence number to Police, who went to Line's home, Sgt. Kirby said. But the man would not give Police a breath sample to test for alcohol.

Line maintained he returned home by 7:30 p.m. and could not have been the driver involved.

FINED FOR $50 FOR PUBLIC DRINKING CTS Fined for $50 for public drinking A man caught drinking from a brown paper bag was fined $50 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Lionel Wesley Williams, 55, of Marsh Lane, Pembroke, was drinking the alcohol near Court Street and Dundonald Street at 9 a.m. on January 23, Police prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby said.

Rodolph Macdonald Hodge, 59, of Alexandra Road, stole two boxes of Winston cigarettes from Hamilton Pharmacy in Pembroke on December 1, Police prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby said in Magistrates' Court.

The cigarettes would have sold for $8, he said.

Hodge was fined $50 for stealing a bottle of gin in 1990, Sgt. Kirby said.

COSTLY `MEDICATION' FOR PAGET MAN CTS Costly `medication' for Paget man The theft of "pain medication'' cost a Paget man $100 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Eric McDonald Trott, 63, of Middle Road, entered The Modern Mart on South Shore Road on February 3 and stole a flask of liquor which cost $8.80, Police prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby said.

When stopped outside by the manager, Trott said he wanted something to kill the pain in his hips, Sgt. Kirby said.

Trott told court he was a regular customer at Modern Mart and frequently spent "hundreds of dollars'' there. But he was "high'' when he committed the theft, he said.

"I just wanted something to ease my pain.'' FINED, DISQUALIFIED FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING CTS Fined, disqualified for impaired driving A man who got drunk and fell off his motorcycle was fined $400 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Earl Tompson, 28, of Privateer Lane, Warwick, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired on Crow Lane on November 23.

At 12:25 a.m., Tompson's cycle strayed into the oncoming lane of traffic and collided with a car, Police prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby said. Tompson fell off the cycle, he said.

On top of the fine, acting Magistrate the Wor. Kenneth Brown disqualified Tompson from driving for one year.
