"Speakers' Corner'' this evening in the Bermuda Industrial Union parking lot on Union Street.

Speeches are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., Committee chairman Mr. Walton Brown Jr. said, with the topic: "Bermuda on Trial -- Free Thinking or Free of Thought.'' Mr. Brown said the idea is to give the lay person a microphone, a box to stand on, and the chance to voice some opinions.

"There really isn't a vehicle for the lay person to raise concerns,'' Mr.

Brown said. "The Press tends to concentrate on well-known people, as if they were the only ones with a contribution to make.'' Mr. Brown said he plans to begin the speeches by talking about "our ability as a country to critically reflect on issues, rather than just having gut reaction based on our own emotional dispositions...we argue that there isn't a great deal of free thinking in Bermuda.''
