Minister for Works and Engineering Alex Scott last night said he and top civil servants had inspected the three empty buildings at Victoria Road, St.

George's, last week and did not see anyone there.

Mr. Scott explained that while there was "some evidence'' of recent occupation, the Works Ministry would secure the grounds.

The ministry is responsible for the property while negotiations are underway for a new buyer.

"We could see the occasional mattress on the floor. We didn't see anyone there,'' Mr. Scott said. "While there is evidence that someone has been up there at some time, there is nobody there any longer.'' He added: "We are taking steps to see that the property is keep free because right now we are in the midst of negotiations with a potential developer.'' Mr. Scott concluded: "I can report that the developer wants those dormitories once they take over that site.'' Last week The Royal Gazette visited the old staff quarters and found most rooms locked but evidence of occupation in several and one man sleeping in a bed.
