St. George's seeks new common councillor

The deadline for names to be given to the Returning Officer is December 2. Mr.

Smith defeated Mr. Gladston Trott in the October 30 municipal election.

The four remaining Common Councillors are Mr. Shirley Gibbons, Mr. Randolph Dowling, Mr. Jimmy Williams and, serving his first term, Mr. E. Michael Jones.

Author and Bridge House Gallery owner Mr. David Raine, and cycle livery owner Mr. Robert Trew lost out in the last municipal election for two Common Councillor posts.

Town mayor the Wor. Henry Hayward said he was surprised no names had been put forward yet, but he pointed out that interested persons often waited until the last minute.

The day of the poll in the event of a contest will be December 8. The Returning Officer will be present in the Town Hall from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

on December 2 to accept nominations of candidates.

The Corporation of St. George's is made up of the Mayor, three Aldermen and five town councillors. Mr. Smith replaced Mr. Ronald Smith, who was asked to step down because of his frequent visits abroad.
