Surprises in store warns PLP leader
Frederick Wade has warned that there will be some surprises among the candidates for the next General Election.
Announcing the same four candidates for the Sandys seats, Mr. Wade said yesterday the whole slate of PLP nominees would be divulged within the next 10 days.
He said the party would have candidates for all the constituencies but he could not say whether there would be candidates for every seat.
At a press conference at PLP headquarters in Hamilton, Mr. Wade announced that deputy party leader Mr. Walter Roberts, Mr. Walter Lister, Mr. Dennis Lister and Mr. Eugene Cox would run in Sandys.
All four men promised to continue their fight for improvements both nationally and for the residents of the parish.
Mr. Roberts said: "In all the plans that are presently affecting Sandys we must make sure that Sandys village is not overlooked.'' The party leader described his deputy, a veteran of 29 years in Parliament, as symbolising the kind of skill and experience the PLP would be offering to the public in the next election.'' He also praised the other three politicians, particularly Mr. Cox whom he described as a trailblazer.
As a rallying cry to PLP voters Mr. Walter Lister said: "When you look at Bermuda you see there has never been a change of Government since the Sea Venture came ashore 300 years ago. This is the time for change.'' The UBP yesterday attacked the PLP for "their predictable charade of news conferences with no news.'' Executive Officer Mr. Joe Gibbons demanded that the PLP get to the issues.
