discrepancies they wish to clarify.

Dean Hodson, director of surveyors Symonds Travers Morgan, said surveyors handing out survey cards on the main routes into Hamilton had noted that some drivers had already picked up a postcard on the previous day on a different approach into the city or at the same location earlier in the day.

"In this instance, drivers are asked to complete both postcards relating specifically to the two separate trips that they made,'' he said. "Indeed, if people passed through the cordon more than twice and have multiple postcards, they are requested to fill in each postcard relating to each individual trip.

"Only this way will it be possible to get a comprehensive picture of all traffic movements into and through the city.'' Mr. Hodson also asked drivers parking in Hamilton to be as specific as possible about where they parked. "For example, `Reid Street' would be too vague whereas `Reid Street between Court Street and Parliament Street' would do just fine.'' The survey will be the first detailed traffic study of Hamilton in the last 25 years and its findings will be incorporated in the new city plan, expected to be tabled later this year.

It is being funded by Government and the Corporation of Hamilton.
