TWO CAUGHT IN THE ACT CRM Two caught in the act Police arrested two men in connection with an attempted robbery at the Ice Queen in Paget early Thursday morning.

At 4.25 a.m. two officers attended the eatery on Middle Road and were told the alleged culprits were still there.

Two men aged 25 and 21 were arrested and taken in for questioning. Court appearances are expected in due course.

YOUTHS SOUGHT IN ARMED ROBBERY CRM Youths sought in armed robbery Police are investigating a robbery which took place at a private home on Cedar Avenue late Tuesday night.

The alleged incident saw three youths enter the victim's home about 10.30 p.m., confront him as he was watching TV, and demand he give them cash.

One of the culprits appeared to be armed with a knife or a small machete.

After the victim gave the attackers his money, they demanded his bank card and PIN number which he also gave them.

Staff extinguished the mattress blaze in room 297 at around 5.40 p.m. on Wednesday.

And the room had already been empty after flooding caused by a burst bathrom pipe.

General Manager Michael Kaile said the room suffered only limited damage because the fire was put out quickly.

It had already been fought by the time a fire crew arrived.

Mr. Kaile said: "I'd like to pay tribute to our staff. The mattress was destroyed but the only other real damage was to the headboard and a scorch mark on the wall.'' Firefighters estimated the damage at $500. It is believed the fire started when the floodwater sparked a short in an electrical cable.

Children have been visiting Fire Service Headquarters on King Street, Hamilton, this week to learn about fire equipment and safety.

The competition theme -- Have a Fire Safe Christmas -- is the focus of the Martin Grimes Memorial Essay contest, with categories for Primary School students and Middle and Senior School students.

The poster competition, for ages six and under, ages seven to ten and ages 11 and over closes at 5 p.m. tomorrow when all entries must be handed in to Fire Service Headquarters.
