Mr. Glenn Titterton said, "We are very confident that the economy will continue to prosper, with international business as one of its major driving forces, and we look forward to working with Premier Smith to help promote Bermuda, its people and its attractive business environment.'' He said that BIBA was "ready to look to the future and work with the new Government for the benefit of the entire community''.

That is exactly the approach we hoped people would take when we said at the end of last Tuesday's editorial, "To those powerful people who are distraught or angry at a sweeping PLP victory after some 35 years, let us simply say, give them a fair chance. This is Bermuda and the people have spoken. Do whatever you can to help the new leaders.'' Bermuda Stock Exchange Chairman William Woods has echoed Mr. Titterton's view that Bermuda's wealth could grow under the new Progressive Labour Party Government.

"The Bermuda Stock Exchange has certainly been a beneficiary of the success of international business in Bermuda...We anticipate building on the growth we have experienced through the continued prosperity of Bermuda as an international business centre.'' There is nothing for Bermuda to gain at this time from obstruction or from the kind of naysaying which will lead people on the outside to view Bermuda unfavourably. There have always been dire predictions from UBP supporters about the terrible things which would happen to Bermuda if and when the PLP came to power. The PLP has come to power with a large majority and we hope that such negative attitudes will not continue and that Premier Jennifer Smith and her team will be given the time they need to show us how they are going to run Bermuda without further scaremongering and without causing undue alarm outside Bermuda.

The government has changed but this is still Bermuda. As Mr. Titterton has said, we should work with the new Government for the benefit of the entire community. We hope that other organisations and other individuals in Bermuda who are in the position to provide support will follow Mr. Titterton's lead.
