Community Affairs Minister Sen. Yvette Swan announced this week that the theme of this year's Heritage Month will be `A Tribute to Tourism''.

"We thought that with the revamping of tourism we should focus on it,'' she said.

"With the theme "A Tribute to Tourism'' all of Bermuda will have an opportunity to appreciate an integral part of our Island home -- its past and its future -- at a time when the industry is changing fast throughout the world.'' Sen. Swan said one of the highlights of Heritage Month will be the Annual Heritage Exhibition at the Bermuda Society of Arts Gallery in Hamilton.

Under the theme, "Tourism In Our Lives'', the May 8 to June 5 exhibition will trace the development of the Island's tourism industry from the mid 1800's to the present day.

And the Bermuda Day Parade, to be held on May 26, will also echo the tourism theme.

"As usual, we will have majorettes, floats, Gombeys and costumed groups,'' Sen. Swan said. "Special guests in the Parade will be the Morris Dancers and Sword and Rose Galliard from London, Ontario, Canada and the 150-strong Frederick Douglass High School Marching Band and Drill Team from Atlanta.'' In addition to the parade and exhibition, the May 21 Harbour Nights will feature special entertainment and be dedicated to Heritage Month.
