represented Bermuda in top-level tax talks in 1987, The Royal Gazette has learned.

Mr. Jeffrey Bergner, one-time staff director of the Senate foreign relations committee, helped a consultant draw up a Bermuda proposal to help locally-based companies operating in the US avoid a "triple tax.'' But a spokesman for the US General Accounting Office, Congress' investigative arm, said Mr. Bergner only represented Bermuda between January and March 1987.

Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan said he believed Mr. Bergner, whom he never met, helped represent Bermuda in the triple tax talks, which ran simultaneously with Bermuda negotiations for the US-Bermuda Tax Treaty.
