admitted to two counts of importing a controlled drug and two counts of possession.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis heard on Wednesday that Zenith cruise ship passengers Gerard A. Desposito, 21, Thomas H. Rosenberg, 19, and William F.

Weiner, 18, all of New Jersey City, were subject to a search by Customs on July 7 at 10.15 a.m. in Hamilton.

Prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said during the search Rosenberg was found with a zip-lock bag of a plant-like material. He was taken back to his cabin along with Desposito and Weiner who were sharing the room.

The search of the cabin revealed another zip-lock bag with three half-burnt homemade cigarettes and 14.06 grams of cannabis, a film canister with six small pieces of paper later found to be six doses of the controlled drug LSD (lysergic acid diethlamide), three more doses were found in a draw, and six more in the jacket of a cassette tape. In all, 18 doses of LSD were found in the cabin.

Sgt. Taylor said three men told Police at Hamilton Police Station they were equally guilty as they all used the drugs together.

Charged with importing cannabis, importing LSD, possession of cannabis, and possession of LSD, they repeated as much in court when Sgt. Taylor told Senior Magistrate Will Francis: "They wish to take equal blame.'' Mr. Francis said he would take that into account and divide the amount of drugs found by three.

However, fixing a street value to the LSD proved to be a difficult task for both Sgt. Taylor and Mr. Francis who referred to it as a "60s drug''.

"I'm doing the best that I can,'' Mr. Francis said. "We don't hardly ever see any of this.'' Mr. Francis, Sgt. Taylor and duty counsel Peter Farge all agreed that the street value for cannabis and cocaine should be used to gauge an average value.

The three young men, dressed in white shirts and ties sobbed quietly as they awaited their fate.

A tearful Rosenberg, whose mother was knocked down by a man who escaped from Police custody earlier this week, repeated that he was sorry.

Mr. Francis fined the three $1,600 each, $500 each for both counts of importing and $300 each for the two counts of possession.
