Police officers responded to the west end sports field around 9.20 p.m. to learn that two Sandys Parish men had been in a fight earlier.

They also heard that one of the men left the area after the initial altercation but then returned carrying what appeared to be some form of acid.

Another argument allegedly ensued and the acid was thrown.

The victim sustained burns on his face, neck and chest and was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in an ambulance. He was detained overnight for observations, but later released.

A Police investigation into the matter continues.

SURVEYOR INJURED AT ACE SITE AC Surveyor injured at ACE site An English surveyor fractured his hip after being run over by a bobcat yesterday afternoon.

The accident happened on the ground floor level of the ACE site on Woodbourne Avenue just before 2 p.m. when the vehicle backed into the 29-year-old man.

The victim was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured hip and was resting comfortably last night.

POLCIE WARN OF WANDERING SCAM ARTIST CRM Police warn of wandering scam artist West End residents were warned yesterday to be wary of a potential scam artist who has reportedly been roaming Somerset.

A Police spokesman said an incident had occurred in which a man went to a residence and claimed that his vehicle had broken down and he needed to borrow jump cables.

The suspect then asked for $20 taxi fare and provided a name and telephone number with the promise to repay the debt.

Inquiries later revealed that the details he gave were false. He is described as being black, five-feet five-inches tall, with a slim build and short hair.

VISITORS TARGETTED IN ST. DAVID'S CRM Visitors targetted in St. David's The Island's tourism industry was done further disservice on Wednesday when visitors became a target of a thief or thieves.

The visitors left their cycle unattended while they went inside a St. David's gas station at 12.20 p.m. and returned five minutes later to find that someone had made off with their backpack.

The cream coloured backpack had been left in the cycle's rear basket and contained an undisclosed amount of cash, a camera, beach-wear and a wallet with various credit cards inside.

POLICE NAB SUSPECTED PURSE SNATCHER CRM Police nab suspected purse snatcher An alleged handbag snatcher was nabbed by Police officers early yesterday morning.

A Front Street bar manager and patrons saw a man snatch a handbag containing cash, credit cards and other personal items from outside the premises on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers on patrol early yesterday morning stopped a 43-year-old Pembroke man as a result of a description given from the earlier incident and then arrested him.

All the stolen property was recovered.

ELECTRIC HEATER GETS A LITTLE TOO HOT FIR Electric heater gets a little too hot Electric heater users were warned yesterday to be careful with the appliances after one started a fire which caused some $2,000 worth of damage.

A Bermuda Fire Services spokesman said four firefighters in one truck were called out yesterday at 12.33 a.m. to a St. John's Hill, Pembroke residence where a small fire was burning in an upstairs bedroom.

A television set, some old clothes and the floorboards were set on fire after a tablecloth was ignited by a nearby electric heater.

The total damage was estimated to be in the region of $2,000.

The spokesman said: "We would like to take this opportunity to remind members of the public to leave a space around heaters which is clear of combustible material. There should be a minimum of three feet all around a heater.'' NUTTY SNUTTY TOWED BACK TO SHORE RES Nutty Snutty towed back to shore A 23-foot powercraft had to be towed back to shore early yesterday morning when it ran into trouble off the Island's North Shore.

The three people on board Nutty Snutty contacted Harbour Radio at 4 a.m. and reported that the vessel was disabled off Admiralty House.

A second vessel, the fishing boat Tamalorn Two responded to the call and towed Nutty Snutty to Devonshire Dock.

POLICE PROBE SOUTHAMPTON ATTACK CRM Police probe Southampton attack A Southampton man has reported being attacked by three men outside of a sports club early Tuesday morning.

The alleged victim told Police he rode his motorcycle to Southampton Rangers Club with the intention of having a drink, but on arrival outside the club he was set upon by the trio of one white and two black men.

The man claimed that they punched him in the head, threw him to the ground and kicked him in his chest and legs. One man demanded money from him and he said he gave him a small amount of cash.

He told Police he was then able to get away from his alleged assailants and escaped on his motorcycle. He was not injured, but his jacket and motorcycle were slightly damaged.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN SANDYS DOMESTIC CRM Woman arrested in Sandys domestic Police arrested a 28-year-old Sandys woman for refusing to stop attacking a man.

A spokesman said Police arrived on the scene of a domestic dispute after receiving complaints from residents of Rockaway Estate, Southampton in the early hours of yesterday morning.

But the woman repeatedly struck her victim and screamed obscenities at him despite several Police warnings.

She was eventually taken to the Somerset Police Station and released after a formal cautioning.

THIEVES AND VANDALS STRIKE EARLY CRM Thieves and vandals strike early Police are investigating two break-ins reported earlier this week.

In the first incident, a thief or thieves entered a window of a home on Tribe Road Number One in Devonshire and removed clothing and loose change.

In the second incident, a Rockaway Lane, Southampton home was targetted and a large quantity of jewellery and cash stolen.

And a Suzuki jeep was damaged as it was parked in the Bulls Head car park on Monday.

Vandal(s) slashed open the car's fabric roof and made the car inoperable by destroying the ignition.

Nothing was stolen from the car.
