(Dickie) Greene, passed away earlier this week. He was 95.

Mr. Greene, who was later known as "Daddy'', first became a household name when he began promoting aquatic sports and swimming races.

In later years he devoted his attention to stage shows, group tours abroad for Bermudians and his long string of beauty pageants.

His first beauty queen was Mrs. Audrey Symonds Caladora in 1940.

Clayhouse Inn owner Choy Aming, a long time friend of Mr. Greene's, remembered when they first met in Trinidad.

"He had brought Miss Queen of Bermuda, Marie Trott, to Trinidad. It was her prize for winning the pageant and I was hosting them,'' Mr. Aming said.

"He asked me to come to Bermuda to open a club.

"When I came to Bermuda he took me to the property, showed me around and helped me get started.'' He added that Mr. Greene was the pioneer of pageants and group tours in Bermuda.

"What he did with his pageants was very uplifting for black women in Bermuda,'' Mr. Aming said.

Mr. Greene is survived by Jane, his wife of 33 years, his 11 children, Ismay, Bobby, Murial, Lois, Vince, Linda, Peggy, Richard, Kevin, Lisa, and David and many grand and great grandchildren. One son, Gerald, predeceased Mr. Greene.
