Trail in Warwick yesterday afternoon.

The woman, who has not been named, was walking along the trail at about 4.30 p.m. when she was jumped on from behind.

Police have interviewed the victim but have yet to release any details about the attack.

A Police spokesman said: "All we can say at the moment is that a serious assault on a woman took place. The investigation is at a very early stage.'' No description of the attacker has been released and Police have refused to comment on the extent of the women's injuries.

Police have repeated calls for people to have their property U-marked.

The move came after owners failed to come forward to claim recovered stolen property -- despite Police appeals.

A Police spokesman said some of the items -- all electrical equipment -- is believed to have been stolen from boats.

Among the haul are three CD/radio/cassette players, two Sony and one JVC.

Also in Police custody are a Fisher VCR and a Sentry automatic/manual battery charger and engine starter.

The spokesman said: "These valuable items highlight the importance and need for owners to have property U-marked.

Anyone who has had items of a similar description stolen should contact Pc.

Police also reissued a warning that vehicle owners should not leave large sums of money or valuables unattended.

The message was repeated following two more recent car thefts.

A Southampton resident reported that money was stolen from his car sometime during Monday night.

The locked car was parked on Cottage Hill when the thief gained entry and stole a reportedly "large'' quantity of cash from the ash tray.
