Nomination day for the by-election -- which was made necessary by the untimely death of former Member of Parliament Madeline Joell -- will be on March 16 with the advanced poll set to take place on March 24.

Writs in connection with the by-election were issued yesterday after having been formally signed by Governor Thorold Masefield.

The polling station for the Paget West by-election will be the Paget Primary School. Expected to run for the Progressive Labour Party in the area is George Scott, who took 24.9 percent or 429 of the 1,720 votes polled in Paget West in the November General Election.

The Opposition's candidate in the race is likely to be either former Deputy Premier Jerome Dill or former Labour Minister Maxwell Burgess, unless the Paget West United Bermuda Party branch go for a candidate who did not lose a seat in the General Election.
