A drum's beginning
when we saw the gray clouds. The rain and thunderstorms made a strong beat.
Then we'd begin to move our tough feet. Our arms would fling and we'd chant and sing. Brothers and sisters holding hands in circular ring. From body to body the energy flowed. We had so much fun and this definitely showed. We'd laugh and have show-downs and clap our dark hands, Until the cool showers completed watering our lands. And when the rain stopped, we listened to the animals, The birds, the insects and all of the mammals. They'd sing and buzz and some even growled, The snakes that hissed and the wolves that howled.
These wondrous creatures would make a strong beat. Then we'd begin to move our tough feet. Our arms would fling and we'd chant and sing. Brothers and sisters holding hands in a circular ring. Then came the time for us to go home. Time to eat, time to sleep and time for dancing dreams to roam. When a new day arose we'd dance again, Making laughter and joy fill the land. Then one day a brother invented the drum, And we never again waited for gray skies to come.
We made our own beats and had lots of fun. We danced all day long until the moon finally shone. And then once again we'd leave to go home, Time to eat, time to sleep and time for dancing dreams to roam. AMNE OSSEYRAN Year 4 Berkeley
