Dear Sir, Earlier this month, my wife and I and another couple were on holiday in Bermuda. The first day we rented scooters and were travelling north on Middle Road on our way to the Dockyard. We had just passed the Somerset Bridge and decided to take the Railway Trail to avoid traffic. My wife, in trying to negotiate the turn into the Railway Trial, lost control of the scooter and struck the adjoining wall head on. The impact threw her over the handlebars into the wall. She suffered a cut and scraped chin, a bruised eye, both hands were cut and skinned, especially the left one and she severely sprained her right ankle. A couple of passing motorists stopped and the gentleman in the house on the east side of Somerset Road came out to help. This gentleman was truly a Good Samaritan in every sense of the word. He took my wife into his home and gave her ice for her ankle and treated her cuts and scrapes with an antiseptic. As he no longer felt she could manage a scooter, he then watched over her while we returned her scooter in exchange for a double.

Unfortunately, in the confusion of the moment, we did not get this gentleman's name. He owns the Scarborough Apartments on the east side of Somerset Road adjacent to the railway. I would publicly like to thank him and acknowledge his very kind and compassionate assistance. He came to us in a time of concern and need and helped us through a very difficult experience. We have made several trips to Bermuda in past years and have always been impressed with the friendliness of the permanent residents, but this gentleman certainly went the extra mile in his assistance to us.

I would also like to publicly thank the staff of the Pompano Beach Resort, particularly Kim and Madree, whose concern and assistance helped make the rest of our stay more enjoyable.

THOMAS E. ALLEN Petersburg, New Jersey Rescued at sea July 3, 2000 Dear Sir, We are frequent visitors to Bermuda and love your island and its people. We have always found Bermudians to be friendly and helpful, and today we are even more appreciative. We were riding about in a small motorboat out near the Dockyard when the boat capsized. It was a while before anymore noticed we were in distress, but once we were noticed, the response was immediate.

A Dockyard worker notified the staff at Windjammer Water Sports (we were not on their boat) that a boat was in distress. They radioed to the marine police and some other boats in the area. Within minutes, a local boat the Outrageous , another boat owned by their friends, and the Marine Police were on the scene.

Despite the fact that a squall was coming, the Outrageous crew had us safely on board and the Marine Police made sure all was well before tending to the capsized boat. We docked back at Windjammer Water Sports, where the staff called for a taxi. Through it all, everyone was so helpful and friendly. It was an unsettling experience because of the fact that my 75-year-old parents were with us.

We want to publicly thank the crew on the Outrageous , their friends on another boat, the Marine Police, and the staff at Windjammer Water Sports (it wasn't even their boat!).
