Warwick man, who engaged in a stealing spree from September to this month, to the Supreme Court for sentencing.

Chris W. Ray, of Spring Hill Road, pleaded guilty to three counts of breaking into Warwick Academy and stealing an assortment of goods, receiving stolen equipment, taking a motor vehicle without permission, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

In all $6,590 worth of goods were stolen, not including the car, from Warwick Academy and Belmont Golf Course, said Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant.

Sgt. Grant said Police stopped Ray driving a car reported stolen. Ray was driving without a licence and without insurance, he added.

Police found some of the items when they later searched Ray's home. A total of $2,150 of the stolen goods were recovered.

Duty counsel Mr. Peter Farge said Ray was a crack addict and he considered prison "hibernation''.

"After he is finished he will just come out and do it again'', Mr. Farge added.

Ray had a history of receiving stolen goods dating back to 1991 and was sent to prison for eight months in February for stealing and false pretences.

After hearing this, Mr. Francis said there was only one course of action he could take.

"This accused clearly has to be dealt with more seriously than I have the powers to do,'' he said.
