Paget East and Devonshire South voters who cannot cast their vote on the May 6 polling date can help pick their new MP at Wesley Methodist Church Hall in Hamilton.

Parliamentary Registrar Marlene Christopher reminded anyone who wants to vote early that they must have a certificate of intended absence from her office before going to the polls.

Certificates will be issued today during polling hours -- 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. -- and applicants must show proof of intended absence, like a plane ticket.

Ms Christopher added that the by-elections will be based on the Parliamentary Register published on June 15 last year. The provisional register with boundary changes in Devonshire Parish will not be used.

There are a total of 2,172 registered electors in Devonshire South and 1,229 in Paget East. Voters should check the register before voting in the advance poll or on May 6.
