man who was caught in the cargo hold of an aircraft at the Airport.

Shannon Looby was remanded into custody after he told Senior Magistrate Will Francis he was homeless and would not be able to have someone sign his bail as surety.

Looby was arrested at the Bermuda International Airport on Friday morning in the cargo hold of American Airlines flight 1444 an hour before it was scheduled to take off.

Looby is believed to have climbed the perimeter fence.

Just two days before he was cautioned about being in a restricted area, but was released by airport security chiefs.

Looby pleaded guilty to boarding an aircraft without the authority of the person in charge of an aircraft, under section 3 (e) of the Bermuda Airport Regulations 1959.

The maximum penalty for the offence is $420.

Airport security found him in the cargo hold hiding under a cargo net around 6.30 a.m.

When asked by Mr. Francis where he was staying so that the report would be completed, Looby said: "I sleep anywhere. I'm homeless.'' Mr. Francis will sentence Looby after he sees the social inquiry report on April 26.

Security chiefs say they are happy with security at the site but have pledged to review arrangements as part of on-going evaluations.

Roger Brydon, aviation security officer, said there was no way the man could have stayed on the plane as he would have been discovered in searches before take off at 7.25 a.m.
