Applications sought for civil aviation job

Applications for the $99,733-a-year director of civil aviation job must be in by June 16. The director works directly under the Governor and Minister of Transport.
The successful applicant will be responsible for safety in all aviation matters, including the Bermuda International Airport, and ensures they are in accordance with the law and international practices.
The director is also responsible for managing the Bermuda Register of Aircraft and Flight Crew, economic regulation of air services agreements, and monitoring fare filings by airlines and charter permits.
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent in aviation or business management and must have a sound understanding of regulatory issues and the airports operations.
They must also have at least ten years post qualification experience and be a self-motivated person prepared to work long and unsocial hours.
The advertisement also warns short listed candidates they may be required to undergo a demanding assessment test.
Herman Tucker, the outgoing director, was last week named as Permanent Secretary of the Telecommunications Ministry and will take that post on June 14.
