April fire losses $105,000
Fire Service revealed yesterday.
Service personnel responded to 71 calls for emergency assistance with 60 for fires and 11 for special services such as rescues, humanitarian calls and non-fire related help such as roof covering, flooding and boat sinkings.
In April, 1991, the Fire Services received 64 emergency calls.
Pembroke, Bermuda's most heavily populated parish, was busiest with 16 calls followed by the City of Hamilton with nine, Southampton and Paget with eight each, Devonshire and Warwick with six each, Hamilton, Smith's and St. George's with five each and Sandys with three.
In the most serious incident during April, a family of four was hospitalised as a result of an early morning fire. The Fire Services said they were treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns. The Fire Services also responded to two automobile accidents resulting in injuries. Four people were hospitalised as a result.
