The act to increase licence duties on auxiliary bicycles to $36 for privately owned and $55 for livery cycles was put forward by Sen. Lawrence Scott (UBP).

For private owners, he said the increase amounted to about $1.50 a month, or $18 a year.

Sen. Neletha Butterfield (PLP) said licence fee payers who have their bikes stolen should be reimbursed.

She also queried why privately owned bikes incurred a higher increase in fees compared to livery cycles.

This was because livery cycles were more expensive to licence in the first instance, Sen. Scott said.

He added a rebate is available on the licensing fee of a stolen bike.
