Dolphin Quest Bermuda is looking forward to two new arrivals as a veterinarian recently discovered that dolphins Cirrus and Dolber are pregnant.

But fans will have to wait until next summer to see the baby dolphins, since gestation for the animals is a year long.

It is estimated that 24-year-old Cirrus is currently ten weeks pregnant and 33-year-old Dolber is about 19 weeks pregnant. Neither dolphin has successfully raised babies, and Cirrus has a history of miscarriages.

Because of Dolber's age and medical history -- she weighs 520 pounds -- she has been placed on a water aerobics exercise programme to ensure fitness throughout her pregnancy.

Early dophin pregnancy detection is now possible as a result of research conducted at Dolphin Quest Hawaii where the marine mammals are given obstetrical ultrasound exams.

MOTHERS-TO-BE -- Pregnant dolphins Cirrus and Dolber are due to give birth during summer 1999.
