Backlog for work permits
with a backlog of work permit applications.
Bermuda Employers Council president Gerald Simons yesterday told his members during their annual general meeting that Ms Cox had admitted there were problems in the Immigration Department and that long delays were currently taking place.
"The Minister assured us that the fundamental policies in her Ministry have not changed,'' he said.
"She did indicate that steps are in place, staff is in place -- temporary staff, to deal with the backlog. We were pleased to learn this.'' Mr. Simons also noted that the Minister planned for employers to have greater access to the Immigration Department.
"Looking to the future, there are plans to improve the access that employers have to the department, to expedite the processing of Immigration requests and get answers to outstanding questions,'' he said.
