Jevon Reid Daniels, 16, of Rosehill Road, Southampton, and 17-year-old Kyle Lightbourne, of Paget, were arrested on September 24 on suspicion of snatching a bag from a golf cart at Port Royal Golf Course, Southampton.

But when the boys discovered the bag only contained a camera, they threw it away.

On Friday, Daniels told Mr. King that he was "just in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people''.

"I accept responsibility for what I did and from now on I am going to hang around the right people and do the right things.'' Before placing Daniels on two years probation, Mr. King said: "I want you to do what is right. I'm placing you on probation because you need some firm supervision.''
