Two of the men accused of killing Jermaine (Red) Pitcher in a machete attack outside Champion's nightclub last February have been released on bail.

And the Royal Gazette has learned as the charges against them are set to be reduced from murder to manslaughter.

Jamal Cuike Robinson was released on Friday while Keniel Alfred Ingham was bailed and out on the street yesterday.

Under Bermuda law, bail is only granted to those accused of murder under exceptional circumstances. However, it appears Director of Public Prosecutions Khamisi Tokunbo will soon amend the indictments against Robinson and Ingham, making them eligible for bail.

Three men were originally charged with Pitcher's murder last March -- Robinson, Ingham and Ryan Rudolph (Tiger) Ball -- but the case against them has been fraught with changes.

Early last month, Ball changed his plea to guilty of manslaughter and DPP Khamisi Tokunbo accepted the plea.

The plea drew heavy criticism from Pitcher's family who wanted to see all three men tried for murder. Ball also sustained life-threatening injuries in the clash outside the late night Reid Street members-only club and spent several weeks in hospital before being charged in the Pitcher murder.

These injuries were not however considered sufficiently exceptional to warrant the granting of bail on murder and Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Ball into custody last March. After changing his plea, Ball asked to address the Supreme Court arraignments session two weeks ago.

Murder accused pair bailed And when urged on by Robinson and Ingham he said: "I just want to say, my co-accused... I don't know what this means to the court... But my co-accused are innocent to this matter.'' Now it appears that Robinson and Ingham will also face reduced charges although it is unknown at this point what they will plead.

Jermaine (Red) Pitcher was 27 years old when he was pronounced dead on arrival at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on February 27, after an incident outside the former Ambassador's Club.

Pitcher died of multiple stab wounds believed to have been inflicted by a machete.

Also injured that night were Ingham and Red Pitcher's half-brother Shane Fox.

All three men accused in the Pitcher matter will return to court for mention on March 1.
