security guard and twice pulled the trigger, is likely to have his 18-year prison sentence reduced, following a hearing in the Court of Appeals.

Twenty-eight year old DeSilva held the loaded handgun at the head of a security guard in the Bank of Bermuda heist back in April 1997. Although he pulled the trigger twice luckily the gun did not discharge.

Acting with Rupert Archibald and Michael Dillas the three robbers stole a total of $37,500 during the raid.

But DeSilva, who was the star prosecution witness against Archibald and Dillas, was sentenced before his accomplices. His lawyer Mark Pettingill contended that as "supergrass'' DeSilva was entitled to a 50 percent reduction in his sentence.

Crown prosecutor Peter Eccles agreed that DeSilva strengthened his case: "He was honest credible and forthright.'' DeSilva's ten-year sentence for firearm possession cannot be altered, but Mr.

Pettingill argued that the eight-year sentence on the charge of robbery, should be halved.

The Appellant Judges informed DeSilva that they would hand down their decision in the next few weeks.
