Crews got the call to Hamilton Parish Workman's Club on Crawl Hill just before 7.45 a.m. and were on scene damping down for more than an hour.

Fire Service spokesman Lt. Jon Thompson said damage was estimated at $5,700.

He said the fire destroyed shelving, bottles of alcohol, a cash register and a mirror.

The blaze is thought to have started after a candle was left burning.
