Edward Allen Dill also admitted smashing the bartender's spectacles valued at $126.

Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, said at about 6 p.m. on February 18 Dill got into an argument with the bartender at the Pembroke club over a drink ticket.

Dill was insisting he had put a drink ticket to buy a drink on the bar. But the bartender didn't believe him, Sgt. Osborne said.

The argument grew louder and the bartender eventually asked Dill to leave, Sgt. Osborne added. When he refused the bartender came around to the front of the bar where he was punched in the face twice by Dill, who then left.

He was found by Police later that day and arrested.

Dill told the court he had only been defending himself against the bartender whom he said gripped him first. And he said he believed the bartender had taken his drink ticket because no one else was around at the time.

Giving Dill "the benefit of the doubt,'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined him $400 for assault and $150 for damaging the glasses, of which $126 was to go towards buying the bartender a new pair.
