be subject to a social inquiry report before being dealt with in Magistrates' Court.

Jeffrey Evans, 17, and Stephen Smith, 16, both of Devonshire, pleaded guilty yesterday to causing bodily harm.

The two students had been walking in Smith's Parish near Specialty Inn at about 6 p.m. on March 3 when they saw their classmate, Prosecutor Sgt. Kenrick James said.

Calling him names, they then started punching him in the stomach. Evans took the fight a step further when he bashed the boy over the head with a wooden baseball bat, causing him to bleed, Sgt. James said. He required three stitches to close the wound.

Police were called and Evans and Smith were arrested.

Sgt. James said the two teenagers had no previous criminal convictions.

"Is it correct you simply marched up to this fellow and assaulted him?,'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis asked.

Smith said they had, because he had "gotten them in trouble with the Police''. Evans said he hit the boy out of anger at being falsely accused of a crime.

Mr. Francis ordered social inquiry reports and bailed them in the sum of $300 plus two sureties. He ordered them to appear for sentencing on May 25.
